Today I play trumpet regularly with 2 big bands and piano in a trio.

Now, new ideas often appear in my mind no matter where I am of what I am doing. I then race to find music paper or access to a piano. I can be especially inspired by beauty or by strong emotional responses, such as moods of sadness or happiness.

Christopher Franke (b. 6 April 1953, Berlin) is a German musician and composer. From 1971 to 1988 he was a member of the electronic group Tangerine Dream. Initially a drummer with The Agitation, later renamed Agitation Free, his primary focus eventually shifted to keyboards and synthesizers as the group moved away from its psychedelic rock origins. While he was not the first musician to use an analog sequencer, he was probably the first to turn it into a live performance instrument, thus laying the rhythmic foundation for classic Tangerine Dream pieces and indeed for the whole Berlin school sound. After his departure from the group, he founded the Sonic Images record label, a New Age music label called Earthtone and the Berlin Symphonic Film Orchestra, and produced a number of solo music works.

Although pianist George Winston and bassist Michael Manring make notable appearances (the latter musician is particularly prominent on "The Funky Avocado"), this record's finest moments are when Hedges is playing solo, as on the lilting "Layover," the dreamy title track, the nimble "Peg Leg Speed King," and the highly percussive "Silent Anticipations." While Hedges often gets unfairly relegated to the New Age category (especially due to the easy-listening reputation of Windham Hill), this initial outing reveals that the late performer had talent that defied easy genre identifications.

New Age music is music of various styles intended to create artistic inspiration, relaxation, and optimism. It is used by listeners for yoga, massage, meditation, and reading as a method of stress management or to create a peaceful atmosphere in their home or other environments, and is often associated with environmentalism and New Age spirituality.
The harmonies in New Age music are generally modal, consonant, or include a drone bass. The melodies are often repetitive, to create a hypnotic feeling, and sometimes recordings of nature sounds are used as an introduction to a track or throughout the piece. Pieces of up to thirty minutes are common. New Age music includes both electronic forms, frequently relying on sustained synth pads or long sequencer-based runs, and acoustic forms, featuring instruments such as flutes, piano, acoustic guitar and a wide variety of non-western acoustic instruments. In many cases, high-quality digitally sampled instruments are used instead of natural acoustic instruments. 1980s Billboard-charting New Age phenom Davol returns with a new collection of feel-good, instrumental electronic pop that, like the album's title, is a Good Sign that synthesizer-based New Age music is alive and well and here to stay in the 2010s. From beginning to end, the album is anchored down by infectious, rhythmic sampled bass and percussion grooves over which Davol adds multiple layers of keyboard melodies, textures, and flourishes. Accompanying Davol on this sonic journey is Peter Maunu, who adds his luminous guitars to the mix, resulting in pure aural delight. The most stirring tracks on the CD are the opener Scarborough Days, which has a very laidback though propulsive, cinematic, and rich and velvety Pat Metheny Group feel to it (in fact, it sounds like something off of PMG's storied Secret Story disc), and Nautikos, with its sparse but riveting keyboard melody. Stylish and sophisticated, Ann Sweeten has always presented a fine mix of new age music with her well-rooted classical themes. Simmering with Splendor. --Solo Piano Publications. PUBLIC BIO: Ann Sweeten displayed an early interest in the keyboard, and her mother gave her a Hammond organ when she was six. Three years later, she received a Baldwin piano for Christmas. She studied privately with David Sokolof, then attended Smith College, from which she graduated cum laude with a degree in foreign languages. Next, she took vocal lessons and founded a rock band called Fall Out. After two years, she returned to academia, attending the Boston Conservatory where she studied music, acting, singing, dance, and musical theater. She moved to New York, joined the actors union, and began getting parts in stage musicals, while also playing piano in clubs and restaurants. Starting in 1997, she began releasing new age piano albums on her own Orange Band record label.
